By repeatedly copying the scene, Juha van Ingen has deconstructed the found footage to such an extent that blast, noise and flickering are all that remain of the film snip. Here Juha van Ingen, who still works with video today, has skilfully made use of video’s own techniques to make a comment on the nature of the medium. The phrase »a stream of electrons«, which can initially be clearly heard as part of the clip, was the inspiration for the name of the series of events Elektronenströme, initiated by Videonale at the Bonner Kunstverein and still running today.

By the time I joined Videonale’s board of artistic advisers in 1992, my initial aversion to the medium of video had turned into quite the opposite. The reason for this was my rather chance encounter with VIDEONALE.1. Suddenly I saw video as a fresh, contemporary instrument which allowed many themes, which could not be handled with the traditional techniques of fine arts, to now be treated in an ambitious artistic manner. The first Videonale was the reason why I, as an art critic, concentrated my attention especially on the video scene for many years.
