How did the Italian video with the curious German ›und‹ in its title get from Cesena to Bonn? In an era without internet the then curators had undertaken journeys to the USA (Petra Unnützer) and Italy (Dieter Daniels), whose fruits could be seen at the first Videonale. Subsequently ROMOLO UND REMO were part of the tour programme which was shown in other places. For whatever reasons, the U-matic tape remained in the inventory. Alas, in the meantime I no longer have an appropriate player to view the tape again. So I am looking forward to meeting ROMOLO UND REMO once more.

Examples of new initiatives and organisations which dedicated themselves to the communication and spreading of video art are the agency for video art 235 MEDIA, which began in 1982 and has been the nucleus for today‘s foundation imai – inter media art institute, and the Videonale Bonn, which I helped to found in 1984 and which has operated successfully until today. One could argue that initiatives like these have contributed to the breaking down of ›systematic differences‹ between video as an art medium and video as a mass medium, by making video art also accessible for a non-specialist public.
