Jeanne Finley captured brilliantly the mass media usage of images during The Gulf War, their subtle manipulation and the status of the off voice that alternates constantly between being in the foreground and then suddenly pushed to the background to once again get back in the foreground; working with double images, double speak, and double meaning. Until the present day it has remained a fascinating work synthesizing the power of video as a critical medium which announces the apocalyptic scenario of hyper digitalisation of the media and of military technology – with one single consequence: a pure, normalized disaster of the time to come.

Videonale Bonn was a pioneer in the field, opening the stage to works made by artists from the former Eastern bloc and today‘s East Europe. The importance of Videonale for us has already been demonstrated by the fact that we received the award for our video TRI SESTRE (THREE SISTERS) at VIDEONALE.5 in 1992. This was essential for our past and future work regarding that our video deals with a story of fiction and documentary about the war in former Yugoslavia, and the work was up-to-the-minute, as it was made at the time of the war.
