The very title of the work REBECA triggers many associations in me. One immediately thinks of Alfred Hitchcock’s film of the same name from the year 1940. Both films deal with a desperate woman, both women are dead, and an exchange of identity figures in both stories; unknowingly in Hitchcock’s case, while with Gonzalo H. Rodriguez the artist himself takes on the role of his grandmother. It is a video which keeps on changing its style, frequently it seems to be too quick, at other times too slow. For me, Gonzalo H. Rodriguez’ REBECA is one of the most unusual graduation films that I have ever supervised.
