The artificial being, created using all the known means for constructing femininity, draws the utterly real consequence of subjectification, rebels and brings the implemented system crashing down. This work from 1984 is unfortunately still relevant today – or what does the bachelorette have to say about this?

Even though it was not my intention for the festival to establish itself as an institution in the art world, I find it fascinating to see what developments such a project can undergo once a start has been made. My interest in video art at that time had been awakened by my intensive study of the Oppenheim Collection at Kunstmuseum Bonn. The motivation was primarily political: Media critical and feminist points of view were interesting to me.
